Technology can play an important role in improving sustainability and the environmental, social and health and safety results in infrastructure projects. Technologies can be related to the core of the project, such as the method of energy generation, and in the measures to minimize and manage environmental, social and health and safety impacts and risks. For example, the use of an off-shore approach to oil and gas development in sensitive environments or transmission lines that go over trees dramatically reduces the project’s environmental footprint and impact. Examples could also include the use of adaptive management approaches to address project changes or build upon lessons learned,  and the use of improved and more efficient and effective mathematical modeling capabilities to assess impacts and risks.
