Materials, Technologies & Equipment

An important element and opportunity in establishing and improving the environmental sustainability in infrastructure projects is the use of materials, technologies and equipment as part of the project design and mitigation measures to adequately minimize and manage negative impacts or enhance the projects’ environmental sustainability. The range of materials, technologies and equipment to support environmental sustainable infrastructure is diverse and rapidly changes and evolves as new technologies and approaches are developed. These have great potential to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of impact mitigation, monitoring and increasing sustainability such as through reduced consumption (of energy, water, and materials), no net resource loss, and social and environmental improvements. While these materials, products and equipment are ideally included in the project design, they can still be identified and implemented during the construction and operation and maintenance phases.
