Project Cycle

Common stages in the development and implementation of infrastructure projects include: planning and design, contracting, construction, and operation and maintenance. For some projects, there may also be a decommission phase. All project cycle phases should include the consideration of environmental, social and health and safety management and sustainability-based actions. This should preferably be done in a collaborative manner with a team composed of the project manager, design or planning team members, technical (environmental, social, health and safety) specialists, construction engineers, and operation and maintenance representatives. It is also recommended that major stakeholders be identified to participate. Sound management and sustainability should be initiated early and continually referenced throughout the project process, and should be an integral part of the project development, implementation and management.
